Tantalum wire is a wire made from high-purity tantalum metal or tantalum alloy through a precision drawing process. Thanks to its unique properties (such as ultra-high corrosion resistance, high melting point, excellent electrical conductivity and biocompatibility), tantalum wire is used in a wide range of high-tech applications such as electronic components, medical implants, high-temperature equipment and chemical processing. Tantalum wires provide stable and reliable solutions for both general industry and extremely harsh environments.

Core Advantages of Tantalum Wire

✅ Unrivaled corrosion resistance

Resistant to strong acids such as hydrochloric acid (37%), sulfuric acid (98%) and nitric acid, as well as molten alkalis and high-temperature chlorides.

Virtually no reaction with environmental media below 200°C.

✅ Stable performance in high temperature environment

With a melting point of 3017°C, it is suitable for extreme high temperatures up to 1600°C in vacuum or inert atmosphere for a long time.

Tantalum-tungsten alloy wires (Ta2.5W, Ta10W) can significantly improve creep resistance and high temperature strength.

✅ Medical grade safety

Conforms to ISO 10993 biocompatibility standards for implantable medical devices (e.g., connecting bone plates, vascular stent anchorage points).

The surface can be electrolytically polished to achieve ultra-low roughness (Ra ≤ 0.4μm) to avoid biological tissue irritation.

✅ Excellent processing performance

High purity tantalum wire (Ta1, Ta2) is soft and easy to bend, suitable for precision braiding and welding of complex structures.

Annealed (soft state) or hard state wires are available to meet different processing needs.

Typical Applications of Tantalum Wire

  1. Electronics
    • Capacitor Anode Leads: Ensures ultra-low leakage current and extended lifespan in high-performance capacitors.
    • Semiconductor Bonding Wires: Connects chip to package leads via thermos compression or ultrasonic welding.
  2. Medical Implants
    • Orthopedic Sutures: Reduces rejection risks compared to traditional stainless steel wires.
    • Interventional Guidewires: Excellent X-ray visibility for precision minimally invasive procedures.
  3. High-Temperature Equipment
    • Vacuum Furnace Heating Elements: Stable performance in inert atmospheres without oxidation.
    • Corrosive Media Filters: Woven filtration layers for aggressive acid recovery systems.
  4. Research & Defense
    • Nuclear Reactor Monitoring Probes: Radiation-resistant and impervious to liquid metal corrosion.
    • Rocket Nozzle Substrates: Supports ultra-high-temperature tantalum carbide (TaC) coatings.

How to Choose Proper Tantalum Material Grade?

  • Electronics: Opt for high-purity Ta1/Ta2 annealed wire (0.05–0.2mm diameter) with electro-polishing to reduce contact resistance.
  • Medical: Choose Ta2.5W alloy wire (0.1–0.5mm diameter) for balanced strength and biocompatibility.
  • High-Temperature: Use Ta10W hard-drawn wire (1.0–3.0mm diameter) with oxidized surfaces to enhance oxidation resistance.
